Penny Hike

Posted by akela on February 26, 2008

Fortunately we had a beautiful night for our Penny hike (as the hall was still full of tents drying out from the weekend Cuboree Pre Camp trip). The pack was divided into 3 groups and off we went. The toss of the coin kept taking Kaa’s group (mainly the white sixes) south up to Ashburton Road, where they passed the homes of Kaa (good chance for a quick drink), Nicholas J and Jackson M. Rodeo

Posted by akela on February 12, 2008

Round ‘em up head ‘em out. Summertime in Glen Iris, a wonderful time of the year. A balmy evening saw the members of A pack drag out their trusty steeds for a race around the Gardiners Creek trail.

Storm clouds are a’brewin

Posted by akela on February 5, 2008

Well it was overcast and thunderstorms threatened for our first night back for the year. But we thumbed our noses at the sky and proceeded outdoors for a night of fitness and fun. Limited in leader numbers but not put off a near full pack rolled up.

We evolved from eggs to lords, tried our throwing arms out for a game of long distant catch, shuttled radioactive rocket fuel through galactic goop and bounced meteors – which of course burst and cooed everyone down. I do not think too many Cubs went home dry last night – we did use recycled water. Rainwater next time as our new tank is due to be installed later this month.

But what lies ahead. Bike rodeos, pre-camp at Gilwell in preparation for the big event of 2008, Cuboree! So it looks like its going to be an action – packed, short term to start the year off.

Bunyip Hunting

Well not many bunyips were seen in the bush, but there was plenty of evidence about pointing to their presence! Read the rest of this entry »

Cubs in the swim

Posted by akela on November 22, 2007

We would pick one of the warmest days ever recorded in November to go swimming at an indoor wave pool, but swim we did. Brave souls jumped into the pounding waves at the Monash Swim centre on Monday night for a bit of fun and a chance to atempt a Swimmer badge or two. Read the rest of this entry »

Poaching Cubs….

Posted by akela on November 14, 2007

Once more, from the pen of Bagheera….

After a break for the Melbourne Cup, cubs was back on last Monday night, when we learnt a bit about the traditions of cub scouting. We poached game outside the hall while trying not to be ’shot’ by the gamekeepers, and we tried to answer questions about The Jungle Book. We then discussed different aspects of cub scout traditions with the leaders, and listened to Jack Slingo talk about his recent overseas travels as part of his Travellers Badge. Now we look forward to next week’s swimming night at the Monash Aquatic Centre.

Racing…..

Posted by akela on October 30, 2007

The Melbourne Cup Carnival started early with a glamourous night at 1st Camberwell South. Punters from the district gathered together for a night of startling activites. Fashions on the field was hotly contested, bookies, trainers, jockeys and a few fillies paraded before the judges vying for the valuable prizes. Read the rest of this entry »
