1003 days later…

Posted by akela on October 15, 2007

A cryptic title I know. 1003 days is the average length of stay in the Cub Scout section for our youth members, of who we farewelled six last Wednesday night. Alex, Nina, Dora, Lachlan, Jessie and Emily have all moved on to the next great adventure that will be Scouts. We also awarded what I believe to be a first, four Grey Wolf badges! It was a concentrated effort by all involved but Dora, Lachlan, Jessie and Nina all got through the requirements and can now wear the Grey Wolf badge with pride on their shiny new Scout uniform.

Tonight we welcome eight new members to A Pack, four Joeys and four new chums, time to get the white paint out again!

And the real meaning of the 1003 days, that was the time from when Akela completed his Wood beads training until they were finally awarded. I will wear them with pride!

City ho!

bike-hike.jpgbike-hike.jpg

It was a good idea at the time, gather Cub Scouts from our District (Boroondara) and race each other to the city on our bikes. Well it was not planned as a race, but by the time we had ridden in and out of the city, to some leaders it felt like we had ridden Le Tour.

Heroes and legends

Posted by akela on September 4, 2007

Footballers, rugby players, cricketers, swimmers, cyclists and ballerinas! Yes another night at Cubs and another chance to raid the dress up box – or in this case the sports wardrobe. A challenge for some was an inspiration for others and we learnt of some the specail sports that kids these days participate in. Taekwondo and Karate from the east, and all manner of ball sports from home and abroad.

Ok, so Dame Edna did not make a special appearance, but with a deft application of Edna glasses the hall was filled with glamourous Dads, a Mum and Cubs for another A Pack Fathers night. We learnt a little about our Cubs and an lot about their Dads as all shared a little. Read the rest of this entry »
